H&G

description

H&G is a short story written by Matt Ricci and illustrated by Freddy Lopez and myself. The work is a take on Hänsel and Gretel recorded by the Brothers Grimm and first published in 1812. This modern adaptation fuses fairytale with science fiction, where the protagonists find themselves buried deep in the sins of humanity—exiled to the ruins of a world where humanoid robots have gone horribly wrong.

Matt originally wrote this story for his Advanced Fiction class at Eugene Lang—part of the Newschool in New York City. What came out of hours of storyboarding, reading comic books, and inking up drawing after drawing, was something that looked more like an adult story book, but never the less has a certain graphic novel flair to it. Here's a selection of illustrations we made for the book.
